Home Sweet Home

Hey everyone. Just thought I’d let you all know I’m back in San Diego. I left camp on the 27th of July, did some traveling, and ended up back home on the 31st. Traveling was great! I headed to Mesa Verde National Park when I left camp and spent 2 great days there. The cliff dwellings were amazing…I strongly suggest that everyone visit Mesa Verde. There were even a few dwellings that the public is able to walk through. After Mesa Verde, I decided to head to Moffat, Colorado. I found it on my map one night and decided that since I was in Colorado, a 3-hour side trip wasn’t really all that bad. There’s really not much there, but it’s near the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and it is a beautiful area. Apparently Crestone, the town next door, is a spiritual haven that draws people from all over. And on my way back towards Durango, CO I had to stop at the UFO Watchtower. A really nice lady sits there all day, everyday, watching for UFOs. They have a gift shop (of course) and a big deck, and you can camp out there too. I made it back to Durango late that night and crashed in a hostel in the middle of town. The next morning I made tracks into Arizona by way of Four Corners and decided at the last minute to ditch my previous plan of stopping at the Grand Canyon and head homeward via the Petrified Forest National Park and the Painted Desert…something I’d never seen before. It was absolutely beautiful and I’m so glad that I chose that direction. I think I took the most pictures in the Painted Desert…the colors are phenomenal!! Passed through Flagstaff that night and decided I could make it another half hour in the car so I ended up staying in Williams, AZ which is along Route 66. Woke up the next morning and decided I had enough of the open road for the time being and headed home to surprise everyone that afternoon. I didn’t return to work until last Wednesday so I had some time at home and also went to Santa Barbara to visit some family and be with my sister on her 21st birthday. Of course, now that I’m back at work, things have returned to being busy busy busy. I still have monster tupperwares full of field stuff littering my office, which I suppose I’ll get to them eventually, but there’s so much other stuff to do. Speaking of which…I should get back to it.

Hope everyone is enjoying the end of summer, I know I am! (oh how I missed the beach!!!)

Love and sunshine,
Stef ;)
