Sewing something for myself

Today I did what I swore to myself I wouldn’t do…go to Joann’s during October. The place is chaos. But I had a coupon, things were on sale, and I needed a break from work. I figured 1pm on a Friday wouldn’t be too crowded. But I was mistaken. Thankfully they’ve got the number system for the cut table allowing you to grab a number and then shop. I woke up this morning with the idea in my head that I needed a new apron; an idea that has been bouncing around in there for a while. I have the most awesome pattern, the Emmeline apron from Sew Liberated. I had seen someone post their version on Craftster and totally thought it was a dress before reading the heading. Actually, I hope to modify the pattern to make a dress, but not until I make myself at least one reversible apron. So back to the apron. I feel the need for a holiday apron and since Emmeline is reversible I decided to tackle two holidays with one go. More like two seasons actually. The only part of the Emmeline that is seen on both sides are the straps and sash so I had to pick coordinating fabrics. Hooray for holiday fabric on sale! I even planned ahead enough to grab my red and green fabrics before leaving the house this morning hoping I could find something that would work (I didn’t). But I did find these beauties…

Lovely, no? Fall and winter. Even though the winter is quite Christmasy (Christmasey?), I couldn’t resist. I love that the poinsettias aren’t blazing red, although I did see some glitterific poinsettia fabric. Ok, I just realized you can’t really see the poinsettias in the picture I took, but trust me, they’re in there. Anyhow, here’s hoping I get it done before Thanksgiving. Sewing something for myself doesn’t happen often and I’m pretty excited.
