My race results for Father Joe's Thanksgiving 5K

We started Thanksgiving off early at Balboa Park for Father Joe’s Thanksgiving Day 5K. We’ve started a tradition (can you call it a tradition if you’ve only done it once?) of participating in a run/walk on Thanksgiving morning. San Diego has no shortage of turkey trots so this should be an easy tradition to keep. It was quite chilly but warmed up as the race began and the sun began to show itself over the treetops. Participating in the race other than myself was Clarke, my Mom, my Dad, my stepmom Karen, my sister Paula, her husband Scott, his mother Charlotte, Scott’s law partner Dave and his wife Meredith. I started off walking with the parents but then felt inspired to attempt to run a bit so off I went. I continued my run/walk with no particular intervals though Balboa Park and the surrounding neighborhood surrounded by literally thousands of people, kids and dogs. I ran the entire last leg, from turning left onto Laurel Street, across the Laurel Street Bridge and through the finish line near the Prado, where my husband was dutifully waiting for me, even though neither of us saw each other. Once we’d all regrouped near the reindeer, we attempted a group picture (but ended up only with a couple of shoulders; the volunteer photographer didn’t know how to use the camera on the phone) before heading to Paula & Scott’s for breakfast.

After breakfast, Clarke and I took a few hours to spend time with Harley, grab Uncle John’s SUPs for our Black Friday paddle, and prep my Thanksgiving Day assignments (Aunt Kay’s frozen cranberry salad and Our Best Bites’ baked brie with pepper jelly…more on that in another post). Clarke headed to his Aunt Nancy’s to visit with his family for a while before joining the rest of us in Crown Point. I went back to Paula and Scott’s to help with dinner preparations. From there, the standard Thanksgiving Day events commenced…cooking, eating, drinking, visiting, watching football, playing video games (vintage Nintendo!). It was a great full (and grateful) day.
